Kat's Nature - Studio 109
Kat Griffin joined the other artists at Loveland Art Studios on Main in September of 2010. She moved to Loveland with her husband and sons in 2005 from the Chicago area. Kat is a Mother to four boys, ages 33, 23, 19 and 12 years.
She has enjoyed painting since a very young age and took lessons here and there, but prefers to explore the arts in her own unique way. Painting took a back seat to raising a family. The Griffin Family moved around a lot, being a military family for 21 years.
Kat’s experience includes working for a well know folk artist in Yorktown, Virginia, named Nancy Thomas. She absorbed a lot of the basics like mixing colors and how to paint in the folk art style in a whimsical way, using modeling paste and a technique to create texture with it.
Kat has a great appreciation and fascination for nature and all kinds of Art. She enjoys experimenting with oil, watercolor, and acrylic paint. Forest and landscapes, birds and flowers are her favorite subjects. Kat enjoys using the palette knife technique and also multimedia pieces with nature “stuff” (Interesting pieces of bark pieces and pinecones and acorns.) Birds are her main fascination, and paintings birds on wood, which look great in the garden-scape or just stuck in a planter with flowers to guard.
Kat has also created some watercolor illustrations with paints and ink to illustrate a children’s book that should be out this winter. It is about a cat named “Creeper” written by Danny Langone of Beloit, Wisconsin. Future children’s book will follow; the next one being about a mouse named “Percy”.
More to come on that in the fall and winter season (2011)…
